Steviol glycosides have been attempted as feed additives in the diets of pigs, cows, sheep and other livestock, and it has been found that they can increase daily weight gain and improve feed conversion rates. For example, adding steviol glycosides to the diet of weaned piglets can increase their daily weight gain without negative effects on feed intake and feed to weight ratio. Adding steviol glycosides to goat feed also showed a trend of increasing dry matter intake and improving feed digestibility.

 

For poultry, the addition of steviol glycosides can also improve production performance and immune function, although poultry are not as sensitive to sweetness as mammals. Research has shown that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of steviol glycosides, as well as their regulatory effects on gut microbiota composition, may help improve the growth performance of poultry.
